This notice is for patients of the healthcare providers that use Karing. Your provider’s own Notice of Privacy Practices is the main notice for your health information. If you are visiting karing.ai as a healthcare professional or job applicant, our Privacy Policy covers you instead.
01Who we are#
SummaryKaring provides the AI voice agents some healthcare providers use to answer patient calls and texts.
Karing (Sownd Inc DBA Karing) provides AI voice agents and related software that healthcare providers use to answer patient calls and texts, schedule appointments and handle related requests. When you call, text or message a healthcare provider that uses Karing, we handle your information on that provider’s behalf.
02Your provider's notice comes first#
SummaryYour provider is responsible for your health information. We act for them, as HIPAA and our agreement with them allow.
Your healthcare provider is responsible for your health information under HIPAA and gives you its own Notice of Privacy Practices. Karing acts as your provider’s business associate: we may use and share your health information only as our agreement with your provider (a Business Associate Agreement) and HIPAA allow. If anything here differs from your provider’s notice or our agreement with them, those control.
03What we handle#
SummaryThe details you share on calls and messages with your provider, plus recordings and transcripts.
To help your provider, we may handle your name, date of birth, phone number and other contact details; the reason for your call or message; details needed to schedule, change or cancel an appointment, request a refill or referral, or answer billing and insurance questions; recordings and transcripts of calls and messages; and technical details such as the number you called from and the time of the call.
04How we use it#
SummaryOnly to serve your provider. We never sell it or use it for our own marketing.
We use this information only to provide services to your provider, for example to answer your call, schedule or change appointments, pass requests to your provider’s staff, send reminders and updates your provider asks us to send, keep your provider’s records up to date, keep our services secure, and meet legal requirements. We do not sell your information, we do not use your health information for our own marketing or advertising, and we do not add information about you from outside sources for our own purposes.
06Text messages#
SummaryYour provider may text you through Karing. Reply STOP to opt out at any time.
If your provider uses Karing to text you, you may get messages such as appointment reminders, care updates or remote monitoring notifications. Your provider sends these messages through Karing and gets your consent, for example when you give it your mobile number. How often depends on your care. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, or reply HELP or email hello@karing.ai for help. We never sell your mobile number or text-message consent, and we never share them with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
07Your rights#
SummaryTo see, copy or correct your health information, contact your provider. We’ll pass along anything you send us.
HIPAA gives you rights over your health information, such as seeing and getting a copy of it and asking for corrections. Please contact your healthcare provider to use these rights; their Notice of Privacy Practices explains them. If you contact us instead, we’ll pass your request to your provider. You can also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights.
08How long we keep it and how we protect it#
SummaryAs long as our agreement with your provider requires, protected by the safeguards HIPAA requires.
We keep information as long as our agreement with your provider requires, then return or delete it as that agreement says. We protect it with the administrative, technical and physical safeguards HIPAA requires, including access controls and encryption of data sent over the internet and stored in our systems.
09Children#
SummaryProviders may use Karing for patients of any age. Our websites aren’t directed to children.
Healthcare providers may use Karing for patients of any age, including children, under their own policies and HIPAA. Our websites are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information online from children under 13.
